2009 CODE SEMINARS: CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
February 23– 25, 2010, Des Moines, Iowa:
2009 IBC Fundamentals Nonstructural Provisions:
Overview:
This seminar addresses the critical concepts of the IBC regarding
nonstructural requirements. It provides a basis for the correct use of
the code in building planning, fire-resistance-rated construction, fire
protection systems, means of egress, and accessibility.
Your instructor will be Terrell Stripling.
2009 IRC Fundamentals Building Provisions:
Overview:
Examines critical concepts of the building and energy provisions located
in the 2009 IRC. It provides a basis for the correct use and application
of the code. This course builds an understanding of the intent of the
code through detailing basic tables and categorizations.
Your instructor will be Terrell Stripling.
2006 IBC Performing Nonstructural Plan Reviews:
(2009 coarse not available yet)
Overview:
Provides essential plan review knowledge and concepts utilizing a
systematic and procedural approach. This course will
help you learn how to perform nonstructural plan review tasks that are
consistent with the requirements in the 2006 International Building Code
(IBC). When you complete this workshop, you will be able to determine
whether a given set of building plans complies with the following
requirements of the 2006 IBC. The topics covered
in this course are not all inclusive. Selected topics that mirror the
plan review record are included and additional topics applicable to most
construction projects are covered. Prior to performing any part of a
nonstructural plan review, the plan review should read all provisions of
the required chapters and determine the applicability of the provisions
on a project-by-project basis.
Your instructor will be Terrell Stripling.
Terrell Stripling is a seasoned instructor with 20 years of fire service
experience and has also worked in the construction industry. He
holds a B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University in Fire Protection
and Safety Engineering Technology. His experience in fire prevention,
code management, and the ability to effectively communicate a pro-active
philosophy, is reflected in Terrell’s passion for education. At the
college level, he has served in the positions of Department Chair and
adjunct professor in the Fire Science Department. He is a seasoned
instructor that utilizes the theory of the codes along with hands on,
practical application to achieve ICC’s vision of “Protecting the health,
safety, and welfare of people by creating better buildings and safer
communities.
Banquet – Evening of the 24th
This is the 3rd Annual Banquet for IABO. The past two years
have been a success. This provides an atmosphere for those across the
State to have a nice meal and relax, discuss topics not normally
mentioned in the meetings or during the course of a working day. This is
an opportunity to meet others in the same field. Guest speakers and
presentation are lined up for the evening after the dinner. Additional
Entertainment may be forthcoming depending upon availability and time.
