NON-CIVIL SERVICE POSITIONS

 

 

·         Inspection Services Division Manager, $57,005-$79,807/Annual/DOQ.  Supervises the activities of the Inspection Services division of the community Development Department.  Work in this class involves responsibility for planning, organizing, instructing and supervising a City-wide inspection program involving the enforcement of all municipal codes and ordinances governing building, construction and minimum housing standards.  Work primarily involves supervision and administration of the activities of support staff and field inspectors assigned to the Division.  Employee is responsible for training, supervising and coordinating the work of subordinate inspectors and making follow-up inspections for condemnation action to be taken by the city council.  Work is reviewed independently, but is reviewed by the Community Development Director for effectiveness and conformance with established municipal and departmental policies. Associates Degree or equivalent and eight to ten years experience in building construction trade at the journey level, supervisory or contractor level, including experience as an inspector or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.  Application review begins August 10, 2010.

 

·         Utilities Director, $81,145-$115,994/Annual/DOQ.  Under general executive direction of the City Manager, this position will plan and direct the progress and activities of the Utilities Department. This is a department director position with full responsibility for the direction, management and operation of the municipal water system; water pollution control and pumping plants; storm sewer collection systems; solid waste collection and disposal system and the air pollution monitoring program.  Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental services or related field necessary.  P.E. licensure preferred.  Extensive experience in directing and managing water and/or waste water plants, supervising employees and contract management desired.  Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Please include a resume with your completed application.  Application review begins July 19, 2010.

 

·         Librarian, Specialist/Technical Services, $22.79/Hour.  Specialist, Electronic Resources.  This full-time position will assist customers from a public service desk and throughout the Library helping them find books, information and providing hands-on assistance in the use of electronic resources.  Will develop and implement tools for maintenance of public computers.  Will assist in development of the Online Branch Library (Library’s website).  Perform other duties as required.  Schedule includes rotating evening and weekend hours.  Prefer degree in Library Science, Educational Technology, Computer Science or related fields.  Applications will be taken until position filled.

 

 

 

 

·         Administrative Assistant, $17.88-$25.04/Hour.  This full-time position will perform financial, operational and administrative functions and support for a Department including the oversight and coordination of office administrative and financial activities and procedures.  Position will perform general office duties, accounting duties, supervise and coordinate office operations and serve as confidential assistant to the department head.  Position will also process and coordinate Federal and State Grants, serve as secretary and support staff for boards/commissions, prepare agendas, take and transcribe meeting minutes and compose a variety of correspondence.  Will also establish and maintain effective working relationships with Officials, other agencies, fellow employees and general public.  High School diploma or GED and five to seven years office administration or accounting experience or two years of college-level or business school course work and zero to two years of office administration or accounting experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.  Applications will be taken until August 3, 2010.

 

·         Part-Time Motor Coach Operator, $13.72-$17.30/Hour.  Drive city bus on school runs and regular routes as needed.  Commercial Driver’s License required.  Keep simple records and make reports.  Must know and obey safety and traffic regulations, have neat appearance, be courteous and get along well with the general public and coworkers.  Will work approximately 20 hours per week.  Applications taken until July 22, 2010.

 

·         Part-Time Refrigeration Engineer, $23.33/Hour.  This part-time position involves responsibility for the application of standard trade practices to the operation, servicing and repair of major refrigeration, air condition, heating/boiler and related units.  Performs skilled work at the journeyman level.  Requires possession of or ability to obtain a First Class Hydronic Engineers license.  Will work at the Tyson Events Center.  Position is part-time with various hours including nights and weekends.  Applications will be taken until position filled.

 

·         Part-Time Maintenance Worker, $18.49/Hour.  This part-time position includes performing a wide variety of semi-skilled and physical labor tasks involved in the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment.  This position involves the maintenance of the Tyson Events Center prior to, during and after events.  Position is part-time with various hours including nights and weekends.  Applications taken until position filled.

 

·         Part-Time Long Lines Family Rec Center Attendant, $8.00-$9.50/Hour.  Part-time employee would oversee Long Lines Family Rec center scheduled events.  Needs to be responsible, able to take/follow directions and be customer service oriented. Responsible for facility maintenance and preparation/setup users.  Must be knowledgeable in building maintenance to include specialty floor maintenance, restroom cleaning, sport equipment staging.  Will supervise facility attendees, collect fees and complete reports.  First Aid and CPR certificates are a plus.  Employee will work evenings and weekends, hours may change day to day.  Must have own transportation.  Applications will be taken until positions filled.

 

·         Seasonal Laborer I/II, $7.61-$8.81/Hour.   Seasonal Laborer positions in Parks or Cemeteries.  Must have knowledge of the use and types of hand tools, mowing equipment and other equipment.  Must be physically able to work 8 or 10 hour days and lift up to 50 pounds.  Forty (40) hour week; hours vary between 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; may require weekends.  Work will last a maximum of six (6) months.  Applications will be taken until positions filled.

 

·         Part-Time Long Lines Family Rec Center Specialist, $12.40/Hour.  Employees in this classification are responsible for the primary operation of Long Lines Family Rec Center.  Must be dependable and able to work unsupervised.  Will be responsible for overall activities in the LLRFC facility, able to direct and lead staff during regular hours and special events.  Applicant may assign duties to staff as needed during facility usage and change duties based upon event; be responsible for reports, inventory and submit supply requisitions and will log/maintain staff hours.  First Aid and CPR a plus.  Will work evenings and weekends, various hours.  Must have own transportation.  Applications will be taken until positions filled.

 

·         EFD Laborer-Convention Center or Events Center, $9.50/Hour.  This is an on-call position with no guarantee of hours.  This position assists in the operation of the Convention Center or Events Center by performing work required in setting up/tearing down of events, maintenance, repairs, cleaning, etc.  Some heavy manual labor is involved.  May work at other buildings for the Events Facilities Department (Convention Center, Events Center, Orpheum, or Ice Center) if needed.  Position is part-time with various hours including nights and weekends.  Must reside in Iowa, within 10 miles of city limits.  Applications will be taken until positions are filled.

Supervises the Construction Code enforcement program; assigns, directs and reviews the work of subordinates; instructs them in uniform methods of inspections procedures. Coordinates and tracks inspections performed in the field. Makes decisions on complex or controversial problems related to field inspection activities; performs inspections as needed. Answers inquiries; interprets Construction Code related standards, rules and regulations and makes decisions on technical problems of code enforcement and applications related to field inspections activities.
