GOVERNOR CULVER APPOINTS MEMBERS TO THE PLUMBING AND MECHANICAL SYSTEMS EXAMINING BOARD

(Des Moines)- Today, Governor Chet Culver announced appointments to the Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Examining Board. The board is established to test, license and discipline plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration and hydronic professionals throughout the state. The board will adopt rules relating to the qualification requirements for applicants, the denial of applicants, the conducting of examinations, the grading of examinations, and the selection of vendors providing examinations. The Board will set fees for examination, and issuance of licenses and renewals. The board shall establish continuing education requirements. The board will also have exclusive jurisdiction of proceedings to revoke or suspend a license. The board administrator is the Iowa Department of Public Health.

11 voting members are appointed by the Governor. These members include:

1. The director of public health or the director's designee.

2.           The commissioner of public safety or the commissioner's designee.

3.           One plumbing inspector

4.           One mechanical inspector

5.           A contractor who primarily works in rural areas

6.           A journeyperson plumber

7.           A plumbing contractor licensed as a master plumber

8.           Two journeyperson mechanical professionals

9.           Two master mechanical professionals.  One shall be a mechanical systems contractor.
